My mother-in-law came a couple weeks ago to watch Hunter while Joy went to a wedding in Austin. Every time she sees any grandchild she always brings books. Hunter got three books from his Granny. He LOVES to read and loves to turn the pages. One book that she got Hunter is called Daddy, Papa and Me. We all thought it was so cute because the grandchildren call Kyle's dad Papa (paw-paw). Kyle was reading it to Hunter one night and got a funny feeling the story was not about a dad, grandfather and a baby. He came down stairs and said "Jennie I think this book is about a baby and his daddies." I looked it up on Amazon and sure enough it is about a gay couple who is raising a child. This author also has another book called "Mommy, Mama and Me."I guess I am completely naive about this stuff. I did not realize there were books about same sex couples with children out in the store. Of course my mother-in-law did not buy this book knowing it was about a same sex couple. She like all of us thought it was a great title and bought it for Hunter.
Now I don't know what to do with the book. Should I keep it and make it a teaching opportunity for Hunter when he gets older? What would that look like? Should I put it on top of a shelf and forget about it? Should I write the author?
What do you think?

Does she know about it??? We probably wouldnt keep it. I wonder if you can get her to exchange it or send you the receipt to exchange it. You would have to probably keep it for a while before Hunter is old enough for that talk.
LOL!!! So funny b/c it's such an honest mistake.
When I was in college, they let us know there was a book called, "I have 2 Mommies" that we could read to our students if we should ever have a child who came from a same sex homelife.
The world is changing!!
I wouldn't keep it either. He'll be introduced to all that sooner than you'd like anyway. Exchanging it, if you can, is a great idea.
I would donate it. Maybe to the hospital library??? Or something like that. I wouldn't keep it either.
But that is pretty funny that Kyle read it first! I bet she will feel so bad!
Mom said to throw it away! And I agree!! =)
I wouldn't throw it away. Same sex couples do exist and do love their children and need to teach their children that their family life is different (whether you agree with it or not). I would donate it to the library so that it would be of use to someone. But you know me, I would always rather someone get use of an item than just have it sit in a landfill.
